Philip Reade

  • Co-Manages the Firm

  • Investor and board member of Cultura Inglesa Rio de Janeiro, one of Brazil’s leading English as a second language school networks, backed by 3G founder Jorge Paulo Lemann

  • For 7 years, until February 2016, Philip was a Partner, Co-Portfolio Manager and Co-Head of the Investment Team at Tarpon Investimentos, Brazil ́s largest independent equities fund with over USD 3 billion (21.7% US$ net annual return, May/2002-April/2017). At Tarpon Philip served as:

    • Chairman of the Board of Omega, Tarpon ́s renewable energy platform / Chairman of the Board of Cremer, a publicly traded company and Brazil ́s leader in the disposable health care sector / Chairman of the Board of Somos Educação, a publicly traded company and Brazil ́s leader in the K12 educational market / Board Member of Tarpon Investimentos, the publicly traded GP, Board Member of Metalúrgica Gerdau, a publicly traded company and the largest long steel producer in the Americas and the second largest globally/ Board member of Tempo Participações, a publicly traded company and Brazil ́s leader in the Roadside and Home assistance businesses

  • Prior to Tarpon, Philip was the Head of the Brazilian operations of NY-based hedge fund, Marathon Asset Management, focused on private and public equities as well as structured credit

  • Prior to Marathon, Philip worked for Goldman Sachs in Sao Paulo, as part of the Investment Banking division, participating in over 20 M&A and capital market transactions in Financial Services, Real Estate, Telecom, Power Generation and Consumer

  • Before that, Philip founded and ran Brasilis Seafood, a company that financed seafood processing plants in Brazil and raised US$ 2 million in venture capital from one of Brazil’s larger institutional investors

  • Philip started his career at Brazilian Banco Garantia, founded by Brazilian entrepreneur and 3G founder Jorge Paulo Lemann and then at McKinsey & Co

  • He went to Sevenoaks School in England, holds an Economics Degree from the University of Sao Paulo (top ranked student in the history of the University, as of 1996 graduation, award for the best graduation thesis and class representative) and an MBA from Stanford

Thomaz Malavazzi

  • Co-Manages the Firm

  • For 8 years, until July 2017, Thomaz was a Partner, Head of International Investments and Head of Business Development at Tarpon Investimentos, Brazil ́s largest independent equities fund with over USD 3 billion (21.7% US$ net annual return, May/2002-April/2017). At Tarpon Thomaz served as:

    • Board Member of Omega, Tarpon ́s renewable energy platform

    • Board Member of Tarpon Investimentos, the publicly traded GP

    • Member of Tarpon’s executive committee

    • President of TISA NY, Tarpon’s NY based operations for international investments and business development

  • Prior to Tarpon, Thomaz was the Lead Strategist at HSBC Asset Management in Brazil, overseeing +US$ 15bn of AuM in Long Only Equity Funds, Hedge Funds and Fixed Income Funds. At HSBC Thomaz served as a member of the Asset Allocation, Fixed Income and Equities Committees

  • Prior to HSBC, Thomaz worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sao Paulo, as a corporate auditor and tax consultant; also participating in M&A transactions in Financial Services and Consumer products companies

  • Thomaz also worked at Merrill Lynch Principal Investments desk in NY and at Fator Corretora in São Paulo

  • Thomaz graduated from Wheeler High School in the US, holds an Economics Degree with Honors from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo (Merit based scholarship for research in Macroeconomics, Best rated graduation thesis in the University – top 3 in State of São Paulo Economic Council) and an MBA in Analytic Finance and Strategy from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Rajat Suri

  • Rajat was previously a Portfolio Manager at the Qatar Investment Authority (“QIA”), one of the largest and most active Sovereign Wealth Funds in the world with $300+ billion in assets. At QIA, Rajat built and ran a multi billion dollar global public equity mandate which included a large allocation to emerging markets across Latam, EMEA and Asia. In addition, Rajat sat on an internal investment committee overseeing all fund allocations across asset classes, and represented QIA on a number of advisory boards

  • Prior to QIA, Rajat was a Research Analyst with Credit Suisse in New York covering Healthcare and Consumer companies with coverage of >$400 bn of market capitalization.

  • Other work experience includes economic and financial consulting at Cornerstone Research and strategy and operations experience from Ross Stores.

  • Rajat has an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He has an MBA with Distinction (top 10%) from Harvard Business School. At HBS Rajat was selected to work on a field study with Ziff Brothers, a highly regarded NY fund manager.

  • Rajat has lived in eight countries across North America, Middle East, Europe and Asia.
