Philip Reade is Founder and Managing Partner at Helm and serves as Co-Portfolio Manager.
From 2009 - 2016 Philip was Partner, Co-Portfolio Manager and Co-Head of the Investment Team at Tarpon Investimentos, Brazil´s largest independent equities manager with over US$ 3 billion in AUM. At Tarpon, Philip led many of the firm’s successful investments across the Materials, Consumer, Healthcare and Energy sectors. Philip also served on numerous public company boards including Omega Energy (Renewables, Chairman), Cremer (Healthcare, Chairman), Somos (Education, Chairman), Metalúrgica Gerdau (Steel) and Tempo Participações (Services).
Prior to Tarpon, Philip led the Brazilian operations of New York based hedge fund, Marathon Asset Management, focused on equities (private and public) and structured credit. Prior to that, he worked for Goldman Sachs’ Investment Banking division in Sao Paulo.
Philip began his investment career at Banco Garantia (founded by Brazilian entrepreneur and 3G founder Jorge Paulo Lemann) where he invested in distresses fixed income through numerous crises across Latam and Asia. He also worked as an Analyst at McKinsey & Co.
Philip holds an Economics Degree from the University of Sao Paulo (top ranked in class) and an MBA from Stanford Business School.

Thomaz Malavazzi is Founder and Managing Partner at Helm and serves as Co-Portfolio Manager.
From 2009 - 2017, Thomaz was a Partner at Tarpon Investimentos, Brazil’s largest independent equities manager with over US$ 3 billion in AUM. At Tarpon, Thomaz served on the Executive Committee and was President of International Operations, based in New York. He led a number of successful local and overseas investments for the firm and also served on the board of renewables platform Omega Energy.
Prior to Tarpon, Thomaz was the Lead Strategist at HSBC Asset Management in Brazil, where he oversaw US$ 15 billion of AUM and served as a member of the Asset Allocation, Fixed Income and Equities Committees. He began his career a Bank Auditor at PriceWaterHouseCoopers in Brazil.
Thomaz holds an Economics Degree with Honors from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo and an MBA in Analytic Finance and Strategy from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Rajat Suri joined Helm as a Partner in 2019 and is responsible for investment research, investor relations and business development.
From 2012 - 2019, Rajat was a Portfolio Manager at the Qatar Investment Authority (“QIA”), one of the largest and most active Sovereign Wealth Funds in the world where he built and ran a multi-billion-dollar global public equity mandate. Rajat led investments in direct equities and equity funds across a range of emerging markets in Asia, Latam and EMEA. Rajat sat on an internal investment committee overseeing all fund investments and represented QIA on a number of advisory boards.
Prior to QIA, Rajat was a Research Analyst with Credit Suisse in New York, covering companies in the Consumer, Retail and Healthcare sectors. Rajat began his career as an Economist at Cornerstone Research in New York before working in Corporate Strategy at Ross Stores, a Fortune 500 discount retail company. Rajat has a dual-undergraduate degree in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania (Honors) and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Ray Waterhouse joined Helm as Partner, COO and CFO in April of 2022. He is also the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer.
From 2017 – 2021 Ray was Partner, COO, CFO and CCO of Shoals Capital Management, LP in Arlington, VA. He helped launch the company’s flagship financials focused equity and credit hedge fund that raised $350 million in the first year.
Prior to Shoals, Ray was Managing Director and Director of Operations for Magnitude Capital, LLC, a $4 billion fund of hedge funds based in New York. Ray started his career in counterparty credit and has also held various positions and titles at Deerfield Capital Management, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Barclays.
Ray has a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, majoring in Finance and Marketing, and a Master of Business Administration degree with majors in Finance and International Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Mark Bower joined Helm as an Advisor in 2020, assisting in research, strategy, and marketing.
Prior to joining Helm, Mark was the Head of Emerging Markets for Bienville Capital, a New York based fund manager and multi-family office. Mark led the development and implementation of the firm's Argentina (US$ 250 million AUM) and Brazil (US$ 40 million) funds and assisted with their Saudi Arabia fund (US$ 200 million). He also was lead research analyst on a range of other emerging market investments, from GCC funds to Russian Equities.
Prior to Bienville, Mark was a Senior Analyst at Argonaut Capital, a New York based macro and equity fund where he led research on emerging market equities and global financials with a focus on Latam, the Middle East and Europe.
Mark began his career at Prince Street Capital where he specialized in Latam, the Middle East and African equities and worked as an executing trader.
Marks holds a Bachelors degree in Philosophy and Economics, and a minor in History, from Emory University.
